Jen Kilgour is Pigsticks Props.A Glasgow-based artist and maker, specialising in prop making for film, tv, theatre and the visual arts since 2019.Having taken the long way round to get to where she currently is, she started out as a kid making weird drawings and funny little creatures. That got her into art school in Edinburgh, doing a degree in stop-motion animation back in the 90s, where she made more weird drawings and funny little creatures.From there she wandered around, a bit aimlessly, for the next 20 years; working as a picture framer, in bars, in outdoor arts event production and being a student a few more times, trying to work out where she really wanted to be. Finally, she found a way to make weird drawings and funny little creatures AND make a living from it.Since delving into the world of prop making, under the guise of Pigsticks Props, she has worked on set and on location, as well as in her little workshop in Glasgow. Making things out of foam, rubbers, plastics and cardboard, whilst making fake things look real and painstakingly adding details to things that will be later smashed to smithereens.She has made props for film productions such as Batgirl, Falling into Place, The Outrun and Out of Darkness and TV shows including The Buccaneers, The Rig and Murder is Easy, Lockerbie: The Search for Truth and Half Man. Theatre shows include Nevada Ballet Theatre’s Peter Pan and set building for Glasgow’s famous Play, Pie & a Pint series of quick turnaround theatre shows at Oran Mor.Her practice includes mould-making and casting, model making, sculpting and the odd bit of carpentry but she will have a go at just about anything else.For Jen, prop making is as diverse as it is fascinating.
